Bright Light Big City Free Essays

What not to Do: Paper 2, Question 2 With pretty much every mix-up made throughout everyday life, there are exercises that can be gained from them. They can be minor changes in a person’s character or they can totally modify the manner in which individuals live their lives. These choices can be to improve things or for the most noticeably awful too. We will compose a custom paper test on Brilliant Light Big City or on the other hand any comparative point just for you Request Now In Jay McInerney’s Bright Lights, Big City, the character of You faces these very predicaments. He committed errors throughout his life that have modified the manner in which he works, his public activity, and, above all, the manner in which he collaborates with his family. It is as though he is a totally unique individual who just needed to fit into the crowd of cool cats. All through the book it is apparent that the faker makes his creative mind reality, and he can't stay aware of it. This books whole plot ought to be a what not to do control for each juvenile who is enticed by peer pressure, since it is an ideal picture of what can occur in such a short measure of time, and how fast an individual can overlook who they truly are. In the start of the novel, You are cited, thinking, ‘You are not the sort of fellow who might be at a spot like this during this season of the morning. Be that as it may, here you are, and you can't state that the landscape is completely new, in spite of the fact that the subtleties are fluffy. ’ (McInerney, Pg. 1) This statement would be one of the first and most significant markers that the character of You is professing to be something that he isn't. Inside the character of You, he realizes that his activities and the individuals he is spending time with isn't the standard or doesn't fit who he is within: an individual with ethics and regard for his family. He is claiming to be an individual without ethics about consuming medications, his activities toward others, or genuineness so as to fit into the ‘In’ swarm. As the story creates, the peruser gets the opportunity to find out about You’s connections, propensities, and other individual subtleties that could offer insights to his implosion. The peruser discovers that You had as of late been separated from his model spouse. They likewise discover that he is very nearly losing his employment, and his mom had spent away a year prior. In any case, as I would see it, the individuals that You started to connect himself with were the ones who changed his ethics. After all the pressure he had been under, individuals like Tad Allagash turned into a kind of simple way out of his circumstance. Rather than managing his worry in a solid manner, he chose to go out into the New York City night life, where he drank too much and ingested different medications like cocaine, rapture, and different pills. He figured out how to have the option to keep away from his family all through his character change which included misleading them when he had to converse with them. For instance, when You is gotten some information about where his better half, Amanda, is by his sibling Michael, he reacts, â€Å"She’s shopping. † (McInerney, Pg. 157). Anyway later, subsequent to being taken out by his sibling, he comes clean, â€Å"‘Amanda isn’t shopping,’ you state. ‘She left me. ’ â€Å"(McInerney, Pg. 159). This change from trickery to trustworthiness when he is helpless shows that the character and ethical quality of You is still within him, it has quite recently been veiled by the created life that he had been living for as long as year. Toward the finish of the novel, You goes to the acknowledgment that the existence he is living isn't who he genuinely is within, which is an individual with ethics and character that is over the pseudo life that is around him. ’I simply acknowledged something. ’ (You) ‘What’s that? ’ (Tad) ‘You and Amanda would make an incredible couple. ’ ‘I assumed that implies that you get Odysseus all to yourself. ’ ‘Later, Tad. ’† (McInerney, Pg. 177-178). You understood that Tad is one of th e fundamental hotspots for his implosion. His mentality towards life and others have been thought about to You. You concluded that he didn't have to endure his jokes any longer and to just excuse Tad from his life. Abandoning Tad starts You’s improve and at the finish of the novel, You takes a stab at a natural yet fundamental staple from his youth: that being bread. He smells it in the city and pay-offs a man to give him some in return for his Ray-Ban shades. â€Å"You get down on your knees and tear open the sack. The smell of warm batter wraps you. The principal nibble sticks in your throat and you nearly choke. You should pick up everything once more. † (McInerney, Pg. 182). This last section is the beginning of a fresh start for You. The image of surrendering his shades for something straightforward yet natural shows that he is eager to proceed onward from the occasions of his past and better himself for what's to come. As I would like to think, the ethical exercise in the novel Bright Lights, Big City is to act naturally and to not give the pressure access your life free yourself up to individuals who may modify your ethics. This epic is kind of a not to do book that shows how effectively an individual can be changed when they permit worry to beat their life. In spite of the fact that it's anything but a genuine story, It can be taken as prudent story. I don't accept the McInerney composed this novel so as to alarm individuals and state that if occasions like these occur in your life, you will wind up a coke head. Nonetheless, I accept he composed this book to show that when individuals are at sure focuses in their life where they don’t recognize what to do, they will go to whatever is most effortless. Despite the fact that at the time what is simple may appear to work, after some time it will wind up destroying them further. Book index 1. McInerney, Jay. Splendid Lights, Big City: A Novel. Maslow and Motivation Hierarchy System

Question: Talk about the Maslow and Motivation Hierarchy System. Answer: Presentation: I accept that Coveys seven propensities end up being viable devices justified for living a morally fitting business, social and individual life (McGuinness McElroy, 2010). To be sure, proactive disposition as I would see it is the best technique for defeating a word related wellbeing peril or an exceptional ecological catastrophe (Al-Shidhani, 2011). I comprehend that use of proactive methodologies warrants the self-appraisal of ones shortcomings, qualities, limits, inspirations just as vulnerable sides. The proactive belief system as I would like to think advocates the investigation of the results of any circumstance, for taking healing measures preceding the occurence of difficulties continuously situation. I was conveyed as a security official in a recovery community, where the power powerhouse out of nowhere burst into flames. I helped the fire douser group for relieving the force of fire while assessing the criticality of the circumstance. It took over 5 hours for getting unlimi ted oversight on the fire. In any case, at that point, a significant part of the harm to the structure of the firehouse had occurred and a portion of the laborers sent in the workstation experienced minor wounds. I for one feel that the execution of moderating strides during the beginning of fire gets basic without any proactive measure and that is the thing that occurred in the recovery place, in this way prompting the event of awful scenes with the staff individuals and significant harm to the restoration foundation. I felt damaged during the occasion and couldn't organize the quick advances requiring execution for taking control on the extending fire. I am certain that the absence of proactive measures was basically liable for the all-inclusive time that was devoured in controlling the fire. The fire laborers had no idea of the methodical advances that they needed to embrace for beating the highly sensitive situation. The non-deliberate and non-proactive methodologies were convey ed for controlling the fire in the restoration community. Besides, nonattendance of sufficient security precautionary measures and counterfeit drills was principally answerable for the significant postpone that in the long run brought about the condition of frenzy following the beginning of fire. I believe that I could have assessed all wellbeing measures in a proactive way and took an interest in different fire bores with regards to picking up ability and trust in taking care of the word related remarkable crisis. The activity plan credits to the sending of proactive methodologies while assessing all wellbeing parameters for the compelling usage of moderation procedures justified for conquering the condition of frenzy and injury experienced by medicinal services laborers just as other staff individuals conveyed at the restoration place. IOSHs Code of Conduct The set of principles recommended by IOSH advocates the prerequisite of dynamic restoration of individuals at their work place (IOSH, 2017). I comprehend that restoration shows illustrated by IOSH help the representatives to proceed with their execution at working environment regardless of encountering constant ailment conditions. I can review an occasion at my work environment where a diabetic worker encountered an intense hypoglycaemia scene during the working hours. Antagonistic indications brought about substantial perspiring and discombobulation because of which he blacked out at his work station. The word related doctor was quickly called by the administration and the worker was raced to the crisis space for moment assessment. The representative appeared to be got dried out and in this way the vitals were recorded and after investigation of his blood glucose level (through a reagent strip). Intravenous hydration intercession was then performed and oral glucose was regulated for balancing out the blood glucose level of the patient. I accept that the IOSH set of principles was severely followed in this occasion and the word related professional did his level best in giving prompt healing mediation to successfully improving the unfavorable indications experienced by the patient. I accept that the unfavorable occasion happened as a result of nonappearance of intermittent observing of the patient by the social insurance groups in the word related setting. The IOSH set of accepted rules advocates the prerequisite of predictable assessment of incessantly sick representatives with the target of decreasing their inclination towards procuring unfriendly malady appearances. While being a word related wellbeing official, I could have helped the social insurance group in performing normal reconnaissance of the representatives with the target of decreasing their extent of encountering wellbeing misfortunes during the working hours. I could have followed the shows uphel d by the great clinical practice and led training meetings for the representatives with the target of upgrading their insight in regards to health related crises and related therapeutic advances justified for keeping away from the event of dangerous conditions at the working environment. The activity plan credits to the dispersal of self-care information among all representatives and teaching them with respect to the use of medical aid intercessions justified during health related crises. I would exhort the incessantly sick patients to telecommute according to their benefit and train them to experience intermittent wellbeing registration with the target of viably observing their wellbeing conditions at ordinary interims of time. Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle Gibbs intelligent cycle is a hypothetical show conveyed by the medicinal services understudies with regards to undertaking the procedure of intelligent composition (Burzotta Noble, 2011). This intelligent model requires the depiction of a (human services related) occasion in six isolated advances and helps the understudy in portraying the activity plan for forthcoming remediation. I accept that Gibbs model helps the understudy in investigating creative thoughts with respect to an occasion for personal development just as efficient rise in suspecting aptitudes. Gibbs model trains the understudy for giving exhaustive detail of any occasion and promoters the depiction of individual emotions with respect to the occasion in an intelligent way. I comprehend that the assessment of an occasion requires the careful depiction of the occasion regarding its unique circumstance and results. The sort of experience picked up during the occasion and the related positive or negatives results addition ally require methodical depiction by the understudy while using reflexive methodologies. I accept that examination of the occasion ought to be done in a way to accentuate the causative elements related with the occasion just as the outcomes of mediation. I believe that the end segment of the Gibbs model requests that the understudy investigate his/her individual limit of altering the results of the occasion under comparative conditions. The understudy additionally gets a chance of viably relating his/her learning objectives and competency level with the positive and negative parts of the occasion and its related outcomes. The activity plan incorporates the medicinal advances performed with the goal of moderating the mind boggling results of the occasion. The administration the board styles are partitioned into post-hoc the board, small scale the executives, seagull the board and different sorts. A perfect authority the executives follows the equitable style where chiefs include the whole group while settling a potential clash (Al-Sawai, 2013). The vote based authority style follows proactive methodologies and endeavor to stay away from the successive event of contentions between the workers in an ongoing domain (Vesterinen, et al., 2013). I believe that the primer goal of including all colleagues in dynamic credits to the setup of a typical accord for evading any antagonistic appearance or inconsistency following the fruitful goals of contention. Choices are typically taken in with the understanding of the staff individuals; in any case, different feelings make confusions during the procedure of dynamic. I can review an occasion at my working environment when my supervisor confronted a work environment strife following an unforgiving contention between two colleagues corresponding to business related error. The chief interceded and took the view-purposes of the whole colleagues with respect to the contention. The choice was worthy to the two gatherings and consequently the issue was settled successfully inside a couple of moments. I feel that this majority rule method of settling work environment clashes is the best technique, since it helps in shaping a gathering accord and helps with fulfilling individuals in regards to the designed choice. The contention at my working environment was taken care of well by the administrator and was settled without making any significant discussion between the groups. The colleagues didn't offer numerous thoughts on the issue and subsequently the issue was settled with no difficulty. In this circumstance, I could have assessed singular assessments of individuals by performing meetings with them to settle on sure that my choice was not authorized on them in any way without thei r real assent. The activity plan ascribes to the organization of guidelines to all colleagues according to detailing of operational complexities straightforwardly to the administrator under an ominous circumstance. Handling Conflicts I as of late encountered the condition of contention between two representatives in my organization when they began undertaking contention following a genuine contradiction on a business related issue. I truly felt the non-achievement of the characteristics including confidence and certainty (pushed by Maslows Hierarchy of Needs) between people (Taormina Gao, 2013). I accept that the contention was the immediate aftereffect of the condition of disappointment between the representatives. This disappointment could have exuded between relational errors or irreconcilable circumstances at working environment. The occasion brought about a distressing circumstance justifying int

A phone call should always be your last resort after you hear nothing back from your employer even after you’ve sent a follow-up mail.A courtesy email to remind them of your status is always the way forward, an email can better convey your graciousness and intimate them about your job application.Organizations tend to be busy all the time, the recruiter will usually prefer to exchange emails as they can quickly refer to the previous emails to understand who the candidate is. The follow-up mail is about redirecting them back to your job application and giving them a good positive reason for them to hire you.Always remember, the company needs to hire you based on their requirements and not because of what you’ve accomplished.Keep the information strictly linear to what they need and ensure you ask any questions that you have regarding the job application status. Politely request a date in which they can provide you with an answer to whether you’ve been approved or not.To demonstrate superior qualities, you can also mention them to provide feedback incase they’ve rejected your application. Organizations prefer employees who think ahead in the future and tend to hire them for their insight.Mention you’re available for a face-to-face interview at any time they needIn your follow-up mail, it’s a good idea to mention that you can stop by anytime at their offices to ensure a quick face-to-face interview can be conducted. Mentioning this showcases your confidence and willingness to go the extra mile for landing the job.By following up within a week’s time you notify them that you’re a person that has clear priorities in life and time is a valuable resource that you don’t intend to waste.By mentioning this important piece of information, you place yourself ahead of the competition and can be intimated when a slot opens for them to verify your qualifications and accomplishments. However, do ask them for a one-day heads-up to ensure you can be on time for your first interview.Fine line between being desperate and graciousMany follow-up emails by applicants tend to be overbearing and this tends to be a major turn-off to hiring managers.Have confidence in your abilities, you don’t need to send them a mail basically asking them for a hand out on the job. No company likes to give jobs based on your personal life rather than your professional one, so leave out your sorrow tales and maintai n your professional posture.Follow-up emails should strictly be about inquiring your status on your job application and that’s it. Don’t waste valuable sentences and paragraphs describing how hard you worked to be where you are and why you need the job over everyone else.Realistically speaking, everyone works hard to be where they are and hence, apply based on their unique accomplishments to set them apart.ETIQUETTE RULES TO ADHERE TO WHEN FOLLOWING UP ON A JOB APPLICATIONCheck the e-mail address and see if it’s correctWhile sending a follow-up email, it’s necessary to send the application to the correct email. Companies are known to keep various emails to address different issues, ensure you get the right email that corresponds to the hiring manager. If there are multiple emails you can always use the “Blind Carbon Copy or BCC” option located in your email provider and include all of them.If in doubt, consult the company’s website or utilize the visiting card if you r eceived one to check for an email address. You can also proceed to call up the company and request the email. Some companies can have an escalation process for follow-up letters that haven’t been responded to. Sometimes, it may take the company more time to analyze a list of candidates before they send out their responses. Other times, it could be an emergency within the company and a delay in sending out your status.Give the company enough time to reply, wait for a week or two and then decide to write a follow-up letter. Ensure you politely request a response and don’t resort to any offensive or a non-professional tone.Be confident in your abilities, if you have the right skills, there is absolutely no reason to fret.Keep yourself up-to-date with your email templatesOne of the biggest nuisances that employers face daily is the fact that candidates send them a boring wall of text with an atrocious email template that doesn’t match a professional tone. Choose simple background colors and eye-friendly fonts to catch the reader’s attention. Ensure the colors are bright and not dark to add a positive influence.Always update yourself with the latest email templates, don’t use email templates that are outdated. Avoid trying to send a white paper background as this is the most common type of job application letter that managers see. By beautifying your letter, you show your employer that you are unique and have something distinct from the rest.Proofread the entire letter and eliminate errorsYour follow-up mail should contain no grammatical mistakes and should be short and concise. Do mention the follow-up procedure if you happen to send an email via t he subject line. Think of this as your second “First” impression to your employer and you need to impress them if you are going to land the job.Utilize online tools to ensure your follow-up mail is free from spelling errors. If you’re using “Microsoft Word”, ensure the automatic proofreader is turned on to fish out your weak grammatical verbs for you. Spend enough time to edit, refine, and improvise your letter. As a matter of fact, read your letter in your own voice to know if there is a weak phrase that you need to eliminate.Be Polite and GraciousDon’t resort to an aggressive attitude and begin accusing your employer of delaying the process. Your application could not be read due to a very busy schedule on their end or an emergency. By trying to accuse, you show exactly why you weren’t picked and you might also end up being blacklisted by the company.Maintain a gracious tone and show them why you’d be a perfect fit for the company by trying to understand why they w eren’t able to read your application letter. What It Means to Be a Good Leader Essay [ Free Example ]

What It Means to Be a Good Leader Essay Essay Prompt Are you naturally a leader or a follower? What can you do to make yourself feel more comfortable as a leader or more effective as a leader? Please use the following components of a good leader: 1. self-awareness (know yourself, understand your moods, emotions as it affects others) 2. self regulation (ability to control your disruptive impulses and mood) 3. motivation (passion to work for reasons other than money and status) 4. empathy (understand the emotional makeup of others) 5. social skill (ability to find a common ground and build rapport) Please write the essay as a leader not a follower. Leadership I believe I am naturally a leader because I am self-aware, can control my impulses, am self-motivated, am capable of empathy, and have social skills.   Of these qualities, my social skills are the weakest set.   I can build rapport but I am also direct with people at times and do not display requisite amounts of Emotional or Social Intelligence.   As I am self-aware, I understand this to be a fault grounded in impatience; I am impatient at times and instead of treating people with the kind of intelligence that I know is needed at the moment, I can rush into making decisions on the spot and make pronouncements that should be reserved and given over time.   Thus, to make myself feel more comfortable as a leader and more effective as a leader, I can focus on this issue of patience and of working on developing social skills.   This paper will discuss what I can do to be a better leader based on the qualities I already possess. In general, being a good leader is about being mindful—and I can be very mindful but sometimes I am more mindful of myself or of my own needs than I am of others.   This can hamper my leadership ability because leadership is not about focusing on one’s self 100% of the time but rather on focusing on an aim outside of oneself and directing/leading others to achieve that aim.   Leadership is about acting rightly and showing by example. Knowing myself is something I have always tried to do—which is why I believe I am a natural leader.   I have always identified with Socrates who taught so long ago that we should know ourselves.   I think there is a great deal of wisdom in this idea because ultimately we are responsible for ourselves and we need to be accountable for our actions.   How will one know what he is to be accountable for if he does not really know who or what he is?   So one has to know himself in order to really be responsible.   This means one has to take a good long look at oneself—faults and all; but one should also be honest about one’s strengths because having false humility is an obstacle to really knowing oneself, too.   Knowing oneself means knowing your moods, when your better moods occur and why, when your worse moods occur and why, and the effect these have on others. Then once this knowledge is gained, one can begin to regulate one’s actions, be aware of one’s moods and plan accordingly.   Motivation is also key to this exercise.   For me, I always like to help motivate others to succeed but I am sometimes uncertain about how best to lead in this way.   I can see what one should do or how one should change to achieve a specific goal—but I can be either too careful in how I give them advice or not careful enough—and both ways can lead to the person not accepting me as a leader.   The social skill aspect of leadership is one that I need to strengthen because I waffle back and forth between having too many scruples when it comes to the social part of leadership and not having enough scruples. For me, I believe the trick is to maintain a high degree of empathy for others, which is something I can do naturally as I am very sensitive to what people are going through and how they must be feeling.   I can easily place myself in their shoes.   With this in mind, I should remember that I don’t always have to find the right words to say or the right advice to give because people can find these words and these ideas on their own—they can arrive at it through any number of ways.   I can offer it if they ask, but sometimes people are just looking for understanding—and I can give that while also providing a bigger picture perspective and making sure that common sense prevails in all situations.   This will help me become a better leader overall. The Internet Essay - 597 Words

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Webster’s dictionary defines the Internet as â€Å"a widely used networking interface, connecting several very large information servers† (193). The Internet is a good way for companies or anyone to get information out to the entire world. Electronic marketing (e-marketing) is a very large part of the Internet. E-marketing is â€Å"the process of creating, distributing, promoting, and pricing products for targeted customers in the virtual environment of the Internet† (Ferrell 597). When I surf the Internet usually I am doing it for one reason, to gather information. The last thing I am going to want is some company sticking their add right in my face. I believe if consumers want to buy these products, they would visit websites of companies who sold them. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;A third disadvantage to e-marketing is intrusive e-mail. E-mail is a good way to communicate long distances for free. Like postal mail, people can receive junk mail electronically. This has always burned me. With postal junk mail simply throwing out what is unwanted solves the problem. E-mail is different. Junk mail will continue to compile on a computer until it is deleted out. This takes up valuable space on the hard drive and also valuable time of the recipient. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; As long as there are disadvantages there must always be at least one advantage to whatever is under review. If there weren’t it wouldn’t exists. One advantage to e-marketing is the availability of products to consumers. The Internet is running twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. To the consumer the Internet is a great place to shop around. There are many places to get the same products; and being able to shop from the comfort of your own home is a nice convenience. A View of Systematic Gendered Repression in the...

The Water and Diamonds Paradox: A View of Systematic Gendered Repression in the Patriarchal Social Construct In economics there exists what is known as the diamond and water paradox, proposed by the great, capitalist economist Adam Smith. It is based on the idea that the total utility, or the total benefit that a person gets from the consumption of goods and services, is low for diamonds, while the marginal utility or the level of satisfaction one receives as the result of a one unit increase in the quantity of a good consumed is surprisingly high for the stones (Parkin 166). This keeps the price of the non-essential gems high and having them in ones possession enviable. This stimulates great conflict between those who apply the rules and those who are constrained by them and realize it. The assigning of values and creation of social norms allows the social construct of deviance to emerge, and it is through a process of meaning attachment that acts or individuals are defined and labeled as deviant (Arthur 5). Deviance here would be the idea or deviation from conformity--I would not call myself a conformist, but shrink from the idea of ostracism, which is the eventual end for women who refuse to fit, at least to some extent, the ideals prescribed by society. Physician Assisted Suicide As A Suicide - 1587 Words

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines â€Å"physician assisted suicide as a suicide by a patient facilitated by means or information (as a drug prescription or indication of the lethal dosage) provided by a physician who is aware of how the patient intends to use such means or information.† The physician provides necessary information about drugs and patient performs the act of suicide. Letting someone die requires justification and involves personal as well as social concerns. The federal government does not have any law on the assisted suicide, since enactment of regulation of people and institution in the medical profession are managed at state level (Clarke, concept 3, slide 35, bullet 1). Oregan became the first US state to enact PAS in 1994 by passing Death and Dignity Act. Three other states Montana, Vermont, and Washington have similar Acts in effect. California has just signed End of Life Option Act in October2015, and the law will be in effect by 2016. Common legal guidelines for the Act include that patient must be capable of making decisions for him/herself, and must be diagnosed with a terminal illness that will lead to death within six months. Currently, the four states in the US legalized physician assisted suicide policy and one state is in the process of legalizing, while forty-five states consider assisted suicide illegal (State by State Guide, 2015). Mccarthyism And Salem Witch Trials Essay - 1127 Words

McCarthyism and The Salem Witch Trials In Arthur Miller’s â€Å"The Crucible† it tells the tale of the Salem Witch Trials. At the time of the play, the McCarthy trials, named after Sen. Joseph McCarthy, were underway. Though, instead of hunting for witches, they were hunting for communists. These two trials may have happened at different points in history, but were in many ways the same. Whether it was death to job loss a lot of lives were changed on account of these trials. â€Å"The Crucible† and the McCarthy trials have become historically important because they show the process of power, fear, and turmoil. When the people who were suspected, accuse others this causes many suspicions to arise in town. In order to survive, the people must either name other names or confess. Either one is a met with a deadly consequence, giving them little hope. Those who tried to fight against the accusations, such as the Proctors, Coreys or Nurses felt the power of Abigail and her influence over the judges. Eventually, a lot of people followed Abigail, knowing better than to oppose her. In the McCarthy trials, it was the Republican House that started to expand McCarthy’s targets â€Å"The Republican-led House Un-American Activities Committee began a determined campaign...targets included left-wingers in Hollywood and liberals....†(2009) When the accusations continued it gave McCarthy power over the people. Even when President Eisenhower spoke out against McCarthy and his lies. McCarthy used his power to accuse Eisenhower of being a communist. In time he had gained a big following. Whether out of fear or belief, people were influenced and tricked. When the person in power is given the ability to accuse others of the same act, this causes a lot of distrust within a community. Mentoring to Retain Nursing Staff Free Essays

The purpose of the study aims to investigate the results of the education-based preceptor program of a community hospital intended to address the declining retention rate of nursing staff in the hospital. The implementation of the program is supported by the perceptions of newly graduated nurses that they still need mentoring even after undergoing orientation. Retention rate should increase through the program. We will write a custom essay sample on Mentoring to Retain Nursing Staff or any similar topic only for you Order Now The study employed convenience sampling by considering as respondents, the 40 newly graduated nurses of the community hospital. The research design is a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data collection is through a survey guided by a questionnaire made up of closed and open ended questions and visual analogue scales. To ensure validity, all the respondents were informed about how the visual analogue scales work. Reliability was achieved by using standard visual analogue scales and variables supported by literature. Results showed that after undergoing the program, there was an increase in retention rate by 29 percent and a decrease in vacancy rate by 9.5 percent. The primary strength of the study is the combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches to derive rich data. Its major weakness is the use of convenience sampling, which means that the results reflect the situation of the respondents but this may not be subject to generalizations. Masny, A., Ropka, M., Peterson, C., Fetzer, D., Daly, M. (2008). Mentoring nurses in familial cancer risk assessment and counseling: Lessons learned from a formative evaluation. Journal of Genetic Counseling, 17(2), 196-207. The study sought to explore the mentoring of nurses to take on the counselling of individuals wanting to learn information on cancer risk in the community. The need to train nurses for this work is because of the rise in community-based activities of the health care institution. The research looked into the results of the 5-day training of nurses on assessment and counseling of cancer risk together with long-distance mentorship to facilitate continuing skills development. Initially, selection of the respondents applied convenience sampling by considering the nurses who completed the training as respondents. The 40 nurses were then randomly assigned to their counterpart in the long-distance mentoring and the scheduling of the mentorship as either immediate or delayed. The study employed the quantitative approach. The data collection instrument is a formative sampling that covers the various aspects of the program. Reliability is ensured by using an instrument already tested by previous studies. Results showed appreciation for mentoring with improved efficacy after 6 months and continuation of the mentoring program to support continuous community-based work. The main strengths of the study are the long period of data gathering that ensured observation of results and use of formative evaluation, which is an accepted measurement tool. The weakness is the focus on quantitative data that could have provided insights from the perspectives of the nurses. Latham, C., Hogan, M., Ringl, K. (2008). Nurses supporting nurses creating a mentoring program for staff nurses to improve the workforce environment. Nursing Administration Quarterly, 32(1), 27–39. The study sought to determine the impact of mentoring in improving work environment of nurses and patient outcomes based on the underlying recognition that a good work environment supports nursing staff retention. Through a mentoring program, workplace issues such as lack of communication and collaboration are addressed. The mentoring relationship involves a 3-year partnership involving the staff of two hospitals. Research participants were determined through purposive sampling by seeking out the nurses engaged in the mentoring programs of the two hospitals. The research approach is qualitative by considering observations of results and outcomes and comparing these with previous base data. Data collection method is observation and document analysis to support the comparative study. Validity is achieved by considering variables that determine the expected outcomes. Results showed that the mentoring program developed mutual respect and reinforced the support culture in both hospitals. This means higher retention rate. The strength of the study is the consideration of data on long-term results and focus on outcomes. The weakness of the study is reliability since observation data could vary when replicated. Wagner, L., Seymour, M. (2007). A model of caring mentorship for nursing. Journal of Nurses in Staff Development, 23(5), 201-211. The study sought to investigate the relationship between mentoring and the personal and professional growth of nurses. This is based on the recognition that health levels of personal and professional growth of nurses supports higher rates of retention. The paper reports on the results of a mentoring program conducted in the form of a workshop involving student nurses and professional nurses. Participants were selected through convenience sampling depending on the nursing students and nurses that signed up for the seminar. The study employed the qualitative approach as a research design because the intention is to derive accounts of the experiences of the mentoring seminar participants. The data collection instrument is focus group interview and individual interviews. Reliability is achieved by taking the personal accounts of the participants and validity is ensured by using questions intended to draw the experiences of the participants on the aspects of personal and professional growth with implications on retention. Results showed that personal and professional growth occurred for both student nurses and practicing nurses. This supports higher entry and retention rate of nurses. The strength of the study is the derivation of rich and in-depth data to support conclusions while the weakness of the study is the short period of data collection that limited data collected on outcomes. Jane Eyre Analysis Essay Example For Students

Jane Eyre Analysis Essay Jane Eyres literary success of the time has been cheaply commercialized. In other words, Brontes novel never got the appreciation it deserved, in the areas it deserved. Many 19th century critics merely assigned literary themes to their reviews to get it over with. Critics commended Jane Eyre for everything from its themes to its form. However, their surface examinations amount to nothing without careful consideration of the deeper underlying background in Janes life where their hasty principles originate. The widely discussed free will of Janes, her strong individuality, and independence are segments of a greater scheme, her life. For example: Janes childhood serves as the most important precedent for all of the self-realism although this purpose is widely disregarded. Even though many have celebrated Brontes carefully wrought description of her protagonists first eighteen years for its vivid pathos, no one has as yet accorded this childhood its deserved weight in the novels ultimate resolution. (Ashe 1) Jane Eyres genius develops in a series of internal reactions to external circumstances rather than shallow judgments about those internal happenings. The external circumstance is Janes childhood while the internal happenings are Janes emotional struggles. These emotions later become labeled as themes of reason, passion or maturation. However these emotions do not merely stand by themselves. Jane Eyre is about dealing and reacting to fate and her actions in the face of unchangeable circumstances. Janes fate consisted of her disaster of a childhood. From the vantage of modern child psychology Janes background-ten years spent at Gateshed barren of affection or adult encouragement, and eight years at Lowood School marked by severe physical privation, to the cheerless philosophy of Helen Burns- can only exempt Brontes heroine from common standards of morality or human incentive. (Ashe 2) Jane Eyres obscure motivations to deal with Mr. Rochesters love in that arbitrary cold manner is a trait which takes root in her childhood trauma.Janes childhood trauma results as a product of her times at Gateshed and Lowood. There were a series of irreversible problems that Jane had to deal with. She was born an orphan into a house devoid of love or respect for her. It is not overly emotionally healthy to live with the ostracism by the Reed family and the unrelenting anxiety over the chidings of the servants, the violence of John Reed, and the punishments and berating of Mrs. Reed. (Ashe 10) Evidently, Jane had this lifestyle since she was little. This can be inferred from Mrs. Reeds loving statement I hated it the first time I set my eyes on it-a sickly, whining, pining thing (7)Jane was not only resented but also lacking any kind of love to balance her out. We know this right away when she is reading her book and she notes there were certain introductory pages I could not pass quite as a blank. They were those of the solitary rocks and promontories (9 ) In addition she mentions how she could not pass ober descriptions of forlorn regions of drear space (11) Jane also mentions she cannot tell that sentiment haunted the quite solitary churchyard All of this language symbolizes her emotional distress. The coldness of the winter scenes in Bewick emphasizes the loneliness of some humans (Chitham 9) All of the places and factors mentioned are representative imagery for her loneliness. Jane is a prisoner within her solitude thus alluding to the name of the setting, Gateshead. In addition to loneliness, Jane often experience helplessness in Gateshed.. Jane exclaims, Why could I never please? Why was it useless to try to win anyones favor? (14) Then she discuses how even with all of Georgiana and Elizas negative traits they are happy and she is not. Jane desperately seeks an answer for her unhappiness, I could not answer the ceaseless inward question- why I thus suffered; (18) In attempts to explain her loneliness, Jane realizes her role as an outcast. Seeing she did not belong at Gateshead, she readily admitted I was a discord at Gateshed halls; I was like nobody there (10) This feeling of being continuously an outcast was transferred on to Lowood where she was maliciously isolated by the headmaster of the school. He specifically told

The Trojan Women Essay Example For Students

The Trojan Women Essay A monologue from the play by Euripides NOTE: This monologue is reprinted from The Plays of Euripides in English, vol. i. Trans. Shelley Dean Milman. London: J.M. Dent Sons, 1920. HECUBA: Forbear, ye virgins; what was pleasing once Pleases no more: here let me lie thus falln, A fall that suits what I have suffered, what I suffer, and shall suffer. O ye gods, Unkind associates I indeed invoke, Yet when affliction rends the anguished heart, We with becoming grace invoke the gods First it is pleasing to me to recount My happier fortunes: thus my woes shall raise A stronger pity. Royal was my birth, And marriage joined me to a royal house; There I was mother of illustrious sons, Sons with superior excellence adorned Above the Phrygians; such no Trojan dame, No Grecian, no Barbarian eer could boast; These I saw falln beneath the Grecian spear, And laid my several tresses on their tomb. For Priam too, their father, flowed my tears; His fate I heard not from report, but saw it, These eyes beheld him murdered at the altar Of Guardian Jove; my vanquished city stormed; My daughters, whom I nurtured high in hope Of choosing honourable nuptials for them, For others nurtured from my hands are rent; There is no hope that me they eer shall see, And I shall never see them more. Th extreme, The height of my afflicting ill is this: I to some house shall go a hoary slave, To some base task, most irksome to my age, Assigned; or at their doors to keep the keys A portress shall I wait, the mother once Of Hector, or to labour at the mill; For royal couches, on the ground to make My rugged bed; and oer these worn-out limbs The tattered remnant of a worn-out robe, Unseemly to my happier state, to throw. Ah, for one womans nuptial bed, what woes Are mine, and will be mine! Alas, my child, My poor Cassandra, maddning with the gods, By what misfortunes is thy purity Defiled? And where art thou, Polyxena, O thou unhappy! Thus of all my sons And all my daughters, many though they were, Not one is left to soothe my miseries. Why do you raise me, virgins? With what hope Lead you this foot, which once with stately port In Troy advanced, but now a slave, to seek A bed of leaves strewn on the ground, a stone My pillow, there to lie, to perish there Wasted with tears? Then deem not of the great Now flourishing as happy, ere they die. We will write a custom essay on The Trojan Women specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now

Using Perl Chr() and Ord() Functions

Using Perl Chr() and Ord() Functions The Perl programming languages  chr() and ord() functions are used to convert characters into their ASCII or Unicode values and vice versa. Chr() takes an ASCII or Unicode value and returns the equivalent character, and ord() performs the reverse operation by converting a character to its numeric  value.   Perl Chr() Function The chr() function returns the character represented by the number specified. For example: #!/usr/bin/perl print chr (33) print /n; print chr (36) print /n; print chr (46) print /n; When this code is executed, it produces this result: ! $ Note: The characters from 128 to 255  are by default not encoded as UTF-8 for backward compatibility reasons. Perls Ord() Function The ord() function does the opposite. It takes a character and converts it into its ASCII or Unicode numeric value. #!/usr/bin/perl print ord (A); print /n; print ord  (a); print /n; print ord  (B); print /n; When executed, this returns: 65 97 66 You can confirm the results are accurate  by checking an ASCII Code Lookup Table online. About Perl Perl was created in the mid-80s, so it was a mature programming language long before websites exploded in popularity. Perl  was originally designed for text processing, and it is compatible with HTML and other markup languages, so it quickly became popular with website developers. Perls strength lies in its ability to interact with its environment and its cross-platform compatibility. It can easily open and manipulate many files within the same program.

Alfred, Lord Tennyson Poems

Alfred, Lord Tennyson Poems The poet laureate of Great Britain and Ireland, Tennyson developed his talent as a poet at Trinity College, when he was befriended by Arthur Hallam and members of the Apostles literary club. When his friend Hallam died suddenly at the age of 24, Tennyson wrote one of his longest and most moving poems In Memoriam. That poem became a favorite of Queen Victorias.   Here are some of Tennysons best-known poems, with an excerpt from each one.   The Charge of the Light Brigade Perhaps Tennysons most famous poem, The Charge of the Light Brigade contains the quotable line Rage, rage against the dying of the light. It tells the historical story of the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War, where the British Light Brigade suffered heavy casualties. The poem begins: Half a league, half a league,Half a league onward,All in the valley of DeathRode the six hundred. In Memoriam Written as a eulogy of sorts for his great friend Arthur Hallam, this moving poem has become a staple of memorial services. The famous line Nature, red in tooth and claw, makes its first appearance in this poem, which begins: Strong Son of God, immortal Love,Whom we, that have not seen thy face,By faith, and faith alone, embrace,Believing where we cannot prove A Farewell Many of Tennysons works are focused on death; in this poem, he ponders how everyone dies, but nature will continue after were gone. Flow down, cold rivulet, to the seaThy tribute wave deliver:No more by thee my steps shall beFor ever and for ever Break, Break, Break This is another Tennyson poem where the narrator is struggling to express his grief about a lost friend. The waves break relentlessly on the beach, reminding the narrator that time moves on. Break, break, break,On thy cold gray stones, O Sea!And I would that my tongue could utterThe thoughts that arise in me. Crossing the Bar This 1889 poem uses the analogy of the sea and the sand to represent death. Its said that Tennyson requested this poem be included as the final entry in any collections of his work after his death.   Sunset and evening star,And one clear call for me!And may there be no moaning of the bar,When I put out to sea, Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal This Tennyson sonnet is so lyrical that many songwriters have tried to put it to music. It ponders, through the use of natural metaphors (flowers, stars, fireflies) what it means to remember someone.   Now sleeps the crimson petal, now the white;Nor waves the cypress in the palace walk;Nor winks the gold fin in the porphyry font:The fire-fly wakens: waken thou with me. The Lady of Shalott Based on an Arthurian legend, this poem tells the story of a lady who is under a mysterious curse. Heres an excerpt: On either side the river lieLong fields of barley and of rye,That clothe the wold and meet the sky;And thro’ the field the road runs by The Splendour Falls on Castle Walls This rhyming, lyrical poem is a somber reflection on how one is remembered. After hearing a bugle call echo around a valley, the narrator considers the echoes that people leave behind.    The splendor falls on castle wallsAnd snowy summits old in story; The long light shakes across the lakes,And the wild cataract leaps in glory. Ulysses Tennysons interpretation of the mythological Greek king finds him wanting to return to traveling, even after many years away from home. This poem contains the famous and oft-quoted line   To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. Here is the opening to Tennysons Ulysses. It little profits that an idle king,By this still hearth, among these barren crags,Match’d with an aged wife, I mete and doleUnequal laws unto a savage race

Product Quality Testing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Product Quality Testing - Essay Example The big question here is how much testing needs to be done, because the testing requires time, which is precious because the clients and users want the product as soon as possible. The paper will include sources that will be used in order to support the question of how much testing needs to be done in order to ensure a good quality product and to show that there is a problem when too much or too little testing is done. A review of literature will be presented to show how we come up with the conclusion. The review includes the study done by Rothman (2001) on release criteria. Rothman (2001) tackles when to release a software/ Also in the article written by Barbara Tallent (2008) she discusses when it is enough for testing and releases it in market. At the end of the paper a conclusion was given and the paper will try to find the best answer on the addressed question. In the article written by Johanna Rothman (2001) "Release Criteria: Defining the Rules of the Product Release Game," he discusses the problems involve in releasing the product early. He also point out that the decision of releasing the product comes from the higher authority of the organization usually the production managers. The article includes the case of Rita who heads the team in developing software. The production manager is being pressured by the customers and needs to release the product as soon as possible. In order to do so Rita and PM releases criteria for the team to decide. The criterion includes; All code must compile and build for all platforms Zero high priority bugs For all open bugs, documentation in release notes with workarounds All planned QA tests run, at least 90 percent pass. Number of open defects decreasing for the last three weeks. Feature x unit tested by developers, system tested by QA, verified with customers A, B before release. All open defects evaluated by cross-functional team. The decision in releasing the product at earlier time should comply with the release criteria. The release criteria objectives are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and trackable. Before releasing the product it should agreed upon by the entire project team and understood by senior management. The reasons for such release should be reasonable enough. Rothman (2001) in the article uses the release criteria to evaluate whether the product can be release or not. This also assesses the entire project and the prediction of an early warning on the incoming problem on the product. Based on the article a product can be released as long as it complies with the release criteria created by the team. Another review on the immature release of the product is shown in the article written by Bernadette Tallent (2008). In this article she presented a case study wherein the VP of marketing for a software company was about to release a new product. The product was incomplete and the team knows it. Extensive user testing on the product has been done and they concluded that the product was missing several key features. Meetings have been done to assess whether or not to release the product in the market. In order to decide in releasing or not releasing the product the group listed trade offs: Reasons to Release The product was stable The product was due to be announced at an Internet World - if we missed the release date we would miss the

To what age should parents support children Research Paper

To what age should parents support children - Research Paper Example In order to effectively deal with the aim of the study stated above, a research question will be asked and effectively interrogated through data collection procedures. The research question and its sub questions are presented below. From a more academic perspective, there continues to be discussions and debates on the place of law on termination age. That is, the academic relevance of the study has to do with the legal implications for parents in supporting or taking care of their children. This means that there are two general themes or aspects of the research problem that the current study seeks to unify. The first theme forms of the basis of academic discussion where the important place of parenting in the development of children is emphasised. On this theme of the research problem, Buehler et al. (2014) noted that as social beings, all children are born in to a social setup, where they are expected to be nurtured and brought up in a way that can be considered as consolidating with acceptable social standards. Meanwhile, as parents assume parenthood, they are legally obliged as the people responsible for giving children the necessary social guideline into becoming responsible adults. Whiles doing this, there are different roles that parents play for their children, including financial support, emotional support, social support, moral support, and educational nurturing (Cohen & Wills, 2005). However, it has often been the case that some parents have out of ignorance and in some cases, deliberate intentions disregarded their roles to children, causing children to be stranded and frustrated in the course of their natural development (Buehler & Welsh, 2009). With this problem reported in sections public media, it has become an area of concern to legitimise an age to which all parents of sound mind will be expected to support their children to. From a more socially

Animal Farm and The Russian Revolution Minor characters and events of the novel Animal Farm symbolize things that are related to the history of Russia. Animal Farm is a story on Stalinism and the Russian Revolution. The characters in Animal Farm all have a part in the Soviet Union meaning the Russian Revolution. The similarities of Mr. Jones and Czar Nicholas II, the leader previous to Stalin tie into each other. There was a strike wave go on in Petrograd. Over 300,000 people went through economic crisis. Factories had a lack of fuel and there were power cuts. The railways were collapsing and there was no meat, and a shortage of flour. Hunger spread through the country. The bourgeois liberals of the â€Å"Progressive Bloc† pleaded with Tsar Nicholas for reform trying to frighten him with revolution. That revolution broke into the February Revolution. Farmer Jones came home drunk one night and didn’t feed the animals making it worse than it already was as they were already starving. The animals got the image of the revolution from Old Major in their heads and attacked. They succeeded and won the battle against Mr. Jones as they drove him off the farm. The animals were now free to do what ever they wanted and needed to pick a leader. Out of all of the animals the pigs were considered to be the most brilliant. The two pigs that stood out the most were Napoleon and Snowball. Napoleon is not a good speaker, but he can assert himself. Snowball is a better speaker because he has a lot of ideas. These two pigs did not get along, much like Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky. The Russian leaders fought for power and Stalin achieved sole power and Trotsky was exiled. Trotsky escaped Stalin’s dilemmas. Stalin hated his opponent so much that he caused his name to be written simply â€Å"Judas Trotsky.† Stalin stole many of Trotsky’s ideas and methods. Eventually Trotsky was expelled from Russia. In the same manner, Snowball and Napoleon always argued over ideas. Napoleon was already power hungry and had a plan to get rid of Snowball after the rebellion. In the middle of this all, Snowball was planning out to build a windmill for power to energize the farm. Napoleon then directed the dogs he raised since they were puppies on Snowball and chased him off the farm. Napoleon eliminated his only enemy and was free to control the farm.

Pyramus and Thisbe Essay

A first-time encounter with the tale of Pyramus and Thisbe would already send your heart fluttering with a hundred different emotions headed primarily of a lover’s longing for his/her partner’s touch and the level of passion the two had shown. Pyramus and Thisbe were childhood lovers that carried with them an ill-fated love story when they were forbidden by their parents to be together. Fortunately, the love between our two lovebirds had been so strong that they discovered a way on how they could communicate day and night. A common crack in their walls allowed this to happen, and being neighbors, they were able to keep in touch with one another and exchange sweet thoughts. Until the day when they can’t bear the silent distance between them anymore came, they finally decided to run away from home and so, they had set up to meet under a mulberry tree near Ninus’ tomb. Come nighttime, Thisbee, who arrived first, spotted a fierce lioness and immediately ran for her life. While on escape, she accidently dropped her cloak which the lioness viciously tore into pieces. Pyramus arrived at the scene with the sight of Thisbe’s cloak and abruptly concluded that his better half had died already. With this thought in mind, he took his own life, thinking that he can’t live with the fact that he had left the love of his life to wait alone in the woods. Thisbe arrived minutes later and upon seeing her lover’s dying state, she decided that she would not let death separate them and she took her own life too. The theme of this love story would probably be unconditional love that was unimaginable given Pyramus and Thisbe’s circumstances. Even death was not powerful enough to separate the two ill-fated lovers. I believe the story only shows how there may be hope for everything. They believed in the love they had and even took the risky choice of leaving everything behind even their own families. This part of the book was really to be well-commended. The love stories were enjoyable to read and Edith Hamilton told the stories in a manner where you can completely visualize scene after scene and really added color to one’s imagination. The narrations were easy to follow and her choice of language was not profane at all, but rather neat and blithe.

Public Interest Theory of Regulation Free Essay Example, 2250 words

The oldest form of regulation is the public interest theory of regulation. This theory of regulation is often more implied within the statues than expressly articulated. Under the public interest theory, regulation is established to ensure and protect those objectives relating to the public interest are upheld. Two main assumptions underline this theory: government regulation is a much lower price than the general competition, and economic markets will more likely fail to operate effectively if left alone due to the fragile state. (Phillips 182). Through this theory that the laws of regulation, in the case of public utilities, is able to be substituted for the laws of competition when regarding what is in the public s interest. Public interest is often defined by the needs or demands of the public at the time. While some of these basic demands, such as complete, uninterrupted service, are ongoing, other demands may change with fluctuating markets, economies, and societal standards. Market barriers that may hinder the public interest theory of regulation may include any of the following: market growth, changing technologies and technological barriers, costly information, externalities such as pollution and infrastructure, and ex-post exploitation.
